This page explains, in plain language, what information we collect when you request the Fake-Spotting Guide or read our newsletter, why we collect it, and the rights you have over it. We've tried to write it the way we write everything else: clearly, and without tricks.
Who we are
Crystalier is operated by Romulus Banciu, Sibiu, Romania. For anything related to your personal data, you can reach us at contact@thecrystalier.com. For the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we are the data controller for the information described on this page.
What we collect, and why
When you request the free guide through the form on our site, we collect:
- Your email address, so we can send you the guide and, with your consent, our weekly newsletter.
- Your consent record, meaning the fact that you ticked the consent box, along with the date and time. We keep this so we can demonstrate that you asked to hear from us.
- Basic email engagement data collected by our newsletter platform, such as whether an email was opened or a link was clicked. This helps us understand what's useful to readers and what isn't.
We do not ask for your name, address, or anything else to send you the guide. We do not buy, sell, rent, or trade email lists, in either direction.
The legal basis
We send you email on the basis of your consent, which you give by ticking the box on the signup form (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw that consent at any moment by clicking the unsubscribe link that appears in every email we send, and withdrawal is immediate. Withdrawing consent doesn't affect the lawfulness of anything sent before you withdrew it.
Who processes your data
We use beehiiv (beehiiv Inc., USA) as our newsletter platform. Your email address and consent record are stored on beehiiv's systems, and they act as our data processor, handling your data only on our instructions. You can read their privacy policy at beehiiv.com/privacy. Where data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, it is protected by appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google's servers when the page loads. You can read Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
Cookies
This landing page does not set advertising or tracking cookies of our own. Our newsletter platform may use strictly functional technology to make the signup work. If that ever changes, this page will change first.
How long we keep your data
We keep your email address and consent record for as long as you're subscribed. If you unsubscribe, our newsletter platform suppresses your address so you don't hear from us again, and we retain the minimal record needed to honor that suppression and to demonstrate past consent. If you ask us to erase your data entirely, we will, as described below.
Your rights
If you're in the EU or UK, and as a matter of our own policy wherever you are, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct it if it's wrong.
- Erase it ("right to be forgotten").
- Withdraw consent at any time, via the unsubscribe link or by writing to us.
- Receive a copy of your data in a portable format.
- Complain to your local data protection authority if you believe we've handled your data unlawfully. We'd appreciate the chance to fix it first, but that's your right regardless.
To exercise any of these, email contact@thecrystalier.com. We'll respond within one month.
Children
Our content is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has subscribed, write to us and we'll remove the address.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data, we'll update this page and revise the date at the top. For meaningful changes, we'll tell subscribers directly by email before the change takes effect.
